Description
Founded in 1808 in Tain-l’Hermitage, Maison M. Chapoutier has embodied the excellence of the Rhône Valley for more than two centuries. Still family-owned, the House became an international benchmark under Michel Chapoutier, guided by humility, close observation of nature and the pursuit of the most faithful expression of each terroir. Its motto, “Fac et Spera” — do and hope — reflects this philosophy: the winegrower accompanies the vine while allowing nature and the soil to take centre stage.
Since 1991, biodynamic principles have stood at the heart of M. Chapoutier’s approach. The House considers terroir to be the meeting point of soil, climate and human expertise, and strives to create the most accurate possible “photograph” of each site. Born in the heartland of Hermitage
Les Granilites is a red Saint-Joseph produced exclusively from Syrah. Its name refers to the weathered granite soils that shape the appellation and give the wine its characteristic mineral tension. The cuvée is blended from parcels located mainly in the southern part of Saint-Joseph, around Mauves, Tournon-sur-Rhône, Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, Saint-Désirat and Limony. These poor, free-draining granite soils encourage deep root development and produce a Syrah combining intensity, precision and elegant structure.
Tasting
Appearance: Intense garnet red with violet highlights.
Nose: Expressive aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and wild black fruits, complemented by mineral graphite notes and beautifully integrated oak.
Palate: Supple and balanced on the attack, with fine, tightly woven and precisely defined tannins. The granite soils provide distinctive mineral tension, leading to a persistent finish filled with attractive black-fruit notes.
Food Pairing: Excellent with roasted quail and shallots, pot-au-feu, veal chop, beef fillet, duck breast, layered potatoes, wild mushrooms or mature cheeses.
