Description
The Talisker distillery, founded in 1831 by the MacAskill brothers, is a true symbol of the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Set in a wild and grandiose landscape, it embodies the untamed maritime spirit of the region.
In 1960, a devastating fire destroyed the distillery's iconic stills. However, in order to preserve the unique and inimitable character of their whiskies, extraordinary efforts were made to recreate these very special stills identically. This attention to detail has helped to maintain Talisker's flavour identity, ensuring that every drop remains true to its heritage.
As is traditional for Scotch whiskies, Talisker's creations are distilled twice, a method that enhances their richness and complexity. Renowned for their intense maritime flavours, peppery and peaty notes, Talisker whiskies are an ode to the sea and the unique terroir of Skye, offering an unforgettable drinking experience.
Tasting
Nose: A delicate nose that only hints at the depth of its dark nature. The initial aromas are soft and maritime, with hints of cereals such as oatmeal. They quickly evolve into more assertive nuances: brackish seaweed, crystalline salt and iodine, all resting on a background of mountain smoke. The addition of a drop of water softens these aromas while enhancing the marine character.
Palate: On the palate, a smooth, creamy texture gradually takes over, revealing a rich, complex flavour. Initially almost perfumed, it blends salty and slightly sweet notes, with characteristic peat and smoke from carefully selected casks. This ‘sea monster’ blossoms into a powerful, peppery finish. The addition of water further enriches the profile, enveloping the tongue in a harmonious peppery tingle.
