Description
The Domaine du Château d’Arlay is a family‑owned wine estate located in Arlay, in the Jura department. It is renowned as one of the oldest “château‑vineyards” in France, cultivating its vines on rich clay‑limestone soils containing fossil deposits, under certified organic farming.
The Vin Jaune Côtes du Jura – Château d’Arlay is a unique dry white wine made from the Savagnin grape variety. It is aged for an extended period under a veil of yeast in oak barrels, without topping up or racking, and then bottled in the traditional Clavelin bottle, the emblematic format of the great Vin Jaune wines of the Jura.
Tasting
Appearance: intense golden yellow hue, bright and typical of Vin Jaune.
Nose: complex and expressive, marked by aromas of fresh walnuts, green apple, morels, and on the retro-olfaction, hints of vanilla, spices, and exotic notes.
Palate: dry and powerful attack, with a generous texture and a rich mouthfeel where hazelnut, almond, curry, honey, caramel, and toasted bread intertwine. Long, saline, and persistent finish, reflecting the extended ageing under flor.
Food pairing: aged Comté cheese, cream-based poultry, trout, coq au vin jaune, truffle risotto, mushroom dishes or foie gras.
Serving temperature: around 14 °C to 16 °C, often after aeration or decanting.
