Qta de São Luiz Vinhas Velhas 2020

The Sogevinus Fine Wines group, through its historic house Kopke, manages the Quinta de São Luiz estate, located in the Cima Corgo sub-region of Portugal’s Douro Valley. The property, framed by white-painted walls that highlight the schist terraces and longstanding winemaking tradition, expresses a clear ambition to combine heritage with innovation.

Vinhas Velhas, meaning “Old Vines,” is a red wine crafted from a small plot of vines over 50 years old within the quinta. Entirely hand-harvested, vinified and aged with the utmost care, it stands out for its limited production and its deep, elegant structure—true to its schist-rich Douro origin.

Appearance: deep ruby colour, luminous, suggesting intensity. 

Nose: vibrant red and black berry fruits, floral hints (violet), subtle menthol notes, elegant and complex. 

Palate: full‑bodied entry, silken yet firm tannins, fresh backbone, velvety structure and a long, elegant finish. 

Food pairings: excellent with rich textured dishes – red meats, game, lamb, truffle pasta, mature cheeses. 

Serving temperature: ideally 16‑18 °C.
