Description
Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in Beaune in 1880, is one of Burgundy's great family-owned wine houses. For four generations, the Drouhin family has crafted wines with the ambition of expressing Burgundy's remarkable terroirs with precision, elegance and authenticity. With a portfolio spanning more than 90 appellations, Joseph Drouhin offers an exceptional journey through Burgundy, from regional appellations to the most prestigious Premier and Grand Crus.
The Maison has been awarded the Grappe d'Or by Gault&Millau, recognising the excellence of its wines and its place among Burgundy's leading producers.
Musigny Grand Cru is widely regarded as one of Burgundy's greatest vineyards and perhaps the finest expression of Pinot Noir in the world. It occupies a limestone terrace overlooking Clos de Vougeot, between the Combe de Chambolle and the Combe d'Orveaux, with an ideal east-facing exposure. Its name is believed to derive from Mucius, a Gallo-Roman landowner who cultivated vines on this hillside nearly two thousand years ago. Later, the monks of Cîteaux elevated Musigny to the legendary status it enjoys today. The brown limestone soil, with little clay and scattered limestone scree, produces a wine of extraordinary finesse, combining power, sensuality and perfect harmony with timeless elegance.
Tasting
Appearance: Deep, brilliant ruby-red colour.
Nose: Intensely complex with ripe red fruits, delicate floral aromas, fine spices and subtle minerality. With age, notes of forest floor, truffle and musk emerge.
Palate: Perfect harmony between depth, freshness and refinement. The tannins are exceptionally fine, sensual and vibrant. Delicious even in its youth, the wine ages gracefully over decades, revealing increasingly subtle and sophisticated aromas.
Food Pairing: Outstanding with roast pigeon, beef fillet, Bresse chicken with morels, sweetbreads, veal chop, black truffle or mature Brillat-Savarin and Époisses cheeses.
