Description
Set high on the majestic slopes of the Douro River, Quinta Boavista is a flagship wine estate fully devoted to the true expression of its terroir. Led by Ricardo Macedo and guided by the expertise of Jean-Claude Berrouet – legendary oenologist of Château Pétrus – the estate produces red wines of remarkable depth, balance, and elegance. Each cuvée embodies a relentless pursuit of excellence, combining Portuguese winemaking tradition with Bordeaux precision to unveil the unique complexity of the Douro’s finest wines.
Among the carefully cultivated grape varieties, Alicante Bouschet holds a special place. Grown on northeast-facing terraces, sheltered from the intense afternoon sun, it enjoys ideal conditions for balanced growth and a slow, even ripening. Originally from France, and a cross between Petit Bouschet and Grenache, it is one of the most iconic teinturier grapes and has become known as “the most Portuguese of foreign varieties.” In the Douro’s unique soils and climate, it produces intensely colored wines with harmonious structure, deep concentration, and outstanding aging potential. At Quinta Boavista, Alicante Bouschet reveals all its promise with both elegance and power.
