Description
Perched on the majestic banks of the Douro, Quinta Boavista is an iconic wine estate devoted entirely to the sincere expression of its terroir. Under the leadership of Ricardo Macedo and the expert guidance of Jean-Claude Berrouet – legendary oenologist of Château Pétrus – the Quinta produces red wines of remarkable depth, balance, and elegance. Each cuvée embodies a constant pursuit of excellence, blending Portuguese tradition with Bordeaux expertise to reveal the full complexity of the Douro’s finest wines.
Located near Pinhão on the right bank of the river, Quinta da Boavista offers breathtaking views of the Douro. Considered one of the region’s most iconic estates, it is celebrated for its rich history – including ties to Baron Forrester – and for its 36 hectares of outstanding vineyards.
Vinha do Oratório is one of the estate’s crown jewels. This single-parcel wine takes its name from the impressive curved terraces that resemble an oratory, reaching nearly 8 meters in height. Facing east and situated between 80 and 175 meters in altitude, the vineyard is home to a blend of more than 25 native Douro grape varieties. With vines averaging over 90 years in age, this parcel produces a wine of outstanding concentration, depth, and complexity — a true expression of the Douro’s soul.
Tasting
To the eye: deep color and dense aroma
To the nose: red fruits and black plums blend harmoniously with the balsamic, spicy and smoky notes of French oak aging.
On the palate: silky, vibrant and complex, where the tannic structure is meticulously inserted, demonstrating the capabilities of a vineyard over 90 years old. This Oratory is a return to the past in the Douro and a tribute to all those who have contributed to the fact that we can still obtain Terroir wines in a region as inhospitable as this one.
