Description
In the middle of nowhere, surrounded by meadows, fields and a few country roads, lies the Glendronach distillery. Geographically, the area is part of the Scottish Highlands, but strictly speaking, the terrain is fairly flat. The oldest house on the estate is Glen House, which dates back to 1771. When James Allardice founded the distillery in 1826, it was used as accommodation for the directors and their families. By the 1860s, the distillery was the largest of its kind in the Highlands, with around 50 people living and working there. After several changes of ownership, the BenRiach Distillery Company Ltd finally took over in 2008. Today, a team of eight, including master blender Billy Walker and manager Alan McConnochie, is responsible for the success of the whiskies.
Glendronach's 12th Cask Strength bottling, like all the distillery's whiskies, takes on its guiding character through slow, uninterrupted maturation in old Andalusian sherry casks.
