Description
Founded in 1808 in Tain-l’Hermitage, Maison M. Chapoutier has embodied the excellence of the Rhône Valley for more than two centuries. Still family-owned, the House has become an international benchmark under Michel Chapoutier, guided by a philosophy based on observation of nature, humility and the pursuit of the purest possible expression of terroir. Its family motto, “Fac et Spera” — do and hope — reflects the belief that the winegrower should accompany nature rather than dominate it.
Biodynamic viticulture has been central to the House’s philosophy since 1991. M. Chapoutier aims to reveal each individual plot as an authentic “photograph” of its terroir, allowing the relationship between soil, climate and human expertise to speak with clarity. This pursuit reaches its highest expression in the estate’s celebrated Single Vineyard Selections, produced in limited quantities from exceptional sites. Today, the House is present throughout the Rhône Valley and also cultivates vineyards in Roussillon, Alsace, Provence, Spain, Portugal and Australia.
La Mordorée is one of M. Chapoutier’s iconic Single Vineyard Selections from Côte-Rôtie. Its name evokes the woodcock, whose feathers display burnished golden-brown tones, while also suggesting the depth and richness of the wine itself. The cuvée brings together two historic expressions of the appellation: Côte Brune, with its chlorite-rich and iron-bearing mica-schist soils, and Côte Blonde, distinguished by gneiss. Their union produces a profound and refined Côte-Rôtie in which the darker, spicier character of Côte Brune is balanced by the floral finesse of Côte Blonde.
Tasting
Appearance: Deep, intense and brilliant red.
Nose: Complex aromas of raspberry, violet and spice, complemented by notes of black olive, tapenade and rosemary.
Palate: Rich, elegant and beautifully structured. The wine combines considerable depth with a silky tannic frame and excellent balance. The darker, spicier character of Côte Brune is lifted by the floral elegance of Côte Blonde, leading to a long and refined finish.
Food Pairing: Excellent with roast pheasant, wild duck with sour cherries, duck breast with cranberries, duck confit, game dishes or roasted woodcock on toas
