Les Granilites 2023

Founded in 1808 in Tain-l’Hermitage, Maison M. Chapoutier has embodied the excellence of the Rhône Valley for more than two centuries. Still family-owned, the House has become an international benchmark under Michel Chapoutier, guided by a philosophy based on humility, observation of nature and the pursuit of the purest possible expression of terroir. Its motto, “Fac et Spera” — do and hope — reflects the belief that the winegrower should accompany nature rather than dominate it.

Since 1991, biodynamic principles have played a central role in the House’s approach. Each wine is conceived as a precise interpretation of the relationship between soil, climate and human expertise. 

Les Granilites is a white Saint-Joseph made exclusively from Marsanne, one of the emblematic grape varieties of the Northern Rhône. Its name refers directly to the weathered granite soils on which the vines are planted. The vineyards are located around Charnas, Tournon and Mauves, the historic heartland of the appellation, primarily on south-east-facing slopes. Altitude, free-draining soils and the influence of the mistral slow the ripening process, preserving remarkable freshness, precise mineral tension and aromatic complexity.

Appearance: Intense, brilliant yellow with delicate green highlights.

Nose: Fresh and refined, revealing white flowers, peach and pear. Subtle gourmet notes and beautifully integrated oak add depth and complexity.

Palate: Fresh and balanced on the attack, with generous volume and attractive notes of white fruit and pastry. A fine mineral tension structures the wine and leads to a long, persistent finish.

Food Pairing: Excellent with veal blanquette, creamy poultry dishes, fish in sauce, scallops, pike quenelles, mushroom risotto or firm cheeses.
