Description

Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in Beaune in 1880, is one of Burgundy's great family-owned wine houses. For four generations, the Drouhin family has crafted wines with the ambition of expressing Burgundy's remarkable terroirs with precision, elegance and authenticity. With a portfolio spanning more than 90 appellations, Joseph Drouhin offers an exceptional journey through Burgundy, from regional appellations to the most prestigious Premier and Grand Crus.

The Maison has been awarded the Grappe d'Or by Gault&Millau, recognising its outstanding quality and its place among Burgundy's leading producers.

The Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of Gevrey-Chambertin's most generous Grand Crus, located immediately below Chambertin and extending from Griotte-Chambertin. The origin of its name remains uncertain: does it refer to the hornbeam trees ("charmes") that once grew here, or simply to the captivating character of the wine itself? The only certainty is that a 19th-century official document already refers to the "untilled land of Charmes." Its limestone outcrops, covered with very thin soils rich in rocks and marl, produce a Pinot Noir combining generosity, elegance and remarkable finesse.

Tasting

"Chambertin is a wine that gives unique sensations, a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas. The hue is deep with an intense ruby colour. Flavours are opulent and earthy. They evoke black cherry, bitter chocolate then liquorice, black truffle and underbrush. With its massive backbone of velvety tannins in near perfect balance, it has great potential for ageing".

Tasting Note by Véronique Boss-Drouhin
