Description

Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in Beaune in 1880, is one of Burgundy’s great family-owned wine houses. For four generations, the Drouhin family has crafted wines with the ambition of expressing the remarkable diversity of Burgundy’s terroirs with precision, elegance and authenticity. With a portfolio spanning more than 90 appellations, Joseph Drouhin offers a genuine journey through the richness and diversity of Burgundy, from regional appellations to the most prestigious Premier and Grand Crus.

The Maison has been awarded the Grappe d’Or by Gault&Millau, a distinction that recognises the quality of its work and its position among the leading names in Burgundy.

Gevrey-Chambertin comes from one of the most prestigious appellations of the Côte de Nuits, in the northern part of the region. The village was mentioned as early as 630 under the name “Gibriacus” and its history is closely linked to Pinot Noir. According to tradition, a winegrower named Bertin planted vines here, inspired by the practices of neighbouring monks. The exceptional quality of the wine produced from his “field of Bertin” earned widespread recognition and eventually contributed to the name Chambertin. The shallow, lean red-brown soils produce a Pinot Noir of great character, combining intensity, structure, depth and elegance.

Tasting

Appearance: Beautiful, clear, vivid and brilliant ruby red.

Nose: Intensely fruity and characteristic of the appellation, with aromas of black cherry, wild blackberry and a delicate touch of liquorice. With age, the wine gains complexity, developing nuances of spice, nutmeg, leather, mushroom and forest floor.

Palate: Structured and harmonious, with present yet beautifully integrated tannins, supported by freshness and a generous texture. The finish is long and balanced, with an elegant return of dark fruit flavours.

Food Pairing: Ideal with roast beef, duck breast, venison fillet, pigeon, game, mushroom-based dishes or mature cheeses.
