Description
Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in Beaune in 1880, is one of Burgundy’s great family-owned wine houses. For four generations, the Drouhin family has crafted wines with the ambition of expressing the remarkable diversity of Burgundy’s terroirs with precision, elegance and authenticity. With a portfolio spanning more than 90 appellations, Joseph Drouhin offers a genuine journey through the richness and diversity of Burgundy, from regional appellations to the most prestigious Premier and Grand Crus.
The Maison has been awarded the Grappe d’Or by Gault&Millau, a distinction that recognises the quality of its work and its position among the leading names in Burgundy.
Nuits-Saint-Georges comes from one of the emblematic appellations of the Côte de Nuits, at the heart of a vineyard where differences in terroir are particularly pronounced. The town’s name is believed to derive from the old French words “Noe” or “Noue”, meaning “marshy meadow”. Historically located along the Roman road known as the “Agrippa Way”, the town prospered over the centuries, while its wines became deeply associated with Burgundy’s gastronomic culture and were celebrated by figures such as Escoffier and Brillat-Savarin. The northern vineyards, close to Vosne-Romanée, produce wines of great finesse, while the stonier soils to the south give more powerful wines with excellent ageing potential.
Tasting
Appearance: Deep, intense and brilliant red.
Nose: Powerful and noble, with aromas of cherry and blackberry accompanied by woody nuances of cedar. With age, the wine develops more complex, gamey notes.
Palate: Beautifully balanced between structure and velvety texture, with present yet elegantly integrated tannins. The finish is long and highly aromatic, with notes reminiscent of fruit syrups and sweet spices.
Food Pairing: Ideal with roast beef, duck breast, venison fillet, pigeon, game, beef bourguignon or mature cheeses.
