Description
Carpano Antica Formula is a historic Italian vermouth widely regarded as the quintessential sweet vermouth. Its original recipe was created in Turin in 1786 by Antonio Benedetto Carpano and is considered one of the earliest commercial vermouths.
The brand is now produced by Fratelli Branca Distillerie in Milan, preserving this centuries‑old formula made from white wines enriched with a complex blend of herbs, spices, and botanicals.
Tasting
Appearance: deep amber colour with light brown reflections, indicating aromatic richness.
Nose: complex aromas of vanilla, spice, citrus peel, dried fruit notes like almonds and raisins, and herbal‑balsamic nuances from a blend of around 30 botanicals.
Palate: round and velvety, with a balanced interplay of sweetness and bitterness. Notes of vanilla carry through, with bitter orange, dates, cocoa and saffron contributing to a long, spiced, savoury finish.
Food & Drink Pairing: excellent neat on ice with an orange twist or used in classic cocktails like Negroni, Manhattan, Americano or Boulevardier. The rich profile also pairs well with aged cheeses, fine charcuterie or dark chocolate desserts.
Serving Temperature: 8–12 °C.
