Description
Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in Beaune in 1880, is one of Burgundy's great family-owned wine houses. For four generations, the Drouhin family has crafted wines with the ambition of expressing Burgundy's remarkable terroirs with precision, elegance and authenticity.
With a portfolio spanning more than 90 appellations, Joseph Drouhin offers an exceptional journey through Burgundy, from regional appellations to the most prestigious Premier and Grand Crus.
The Maison has been awarded the Grappe d'Or by Gault&Millau, recognising the excellence of its wines and its place among Burgundy's finest producers.
The Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is one of the flagship Grand Crus of Morey-Saint-Denis, located at the northern edge of the appellation, only a few metres from Gevrey-Chambertin, extending towards Latricières-Chambertin and Les Combottes. Its name most likely refers to the numerous limestone outcrops that emerge through the thin topsoil and create distinctive white patches across the vineyard. Another tradition suggests that the "rock" was once a sacred Celtic stone. The exceptionally rocky limestone terroir, difficult to cultivate, produces a Pinot Noir of remarkable depth, combining power, harmony and extraordinary ageing potential.
