Description
Maurice Drouhin was for many years Administrator of the Hospices de Beaune, then Vice-Chairman of the Administrative Commission of the Institution from 1941 to 1955. At the same time, he ran the Joseph Drouhin wine merchant-breeder business. His generous donation of high-quality vineyards constitutes one of the largest areas of Beaune Premier Cru in the Domaine des Hospices. It covers 2.69 hectares, with 40% in Les Avaux, 25% in Les Champs Pimonts, 25% in Les Boucherottes and the remainder in Les Grèves.
The etymology of the appellation comes from the ‘genevrier’, a shrub with prickly needles and purple berries that thrives in the region's limestone soils.
