Description
Founded in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the most historic estates in Portugal’s Douro Valley. Located near Peso da Régua, the winery is connected to the Ferreira family, descendants of the legendary Port wine figure Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira. Today the estate is widely recognized for producing elegant wines that reflect the unique character of the Douro region.
The Vallado is a classic red wine of the estate made from traditional Portuguese grape varieties. Grown on the region’s characteristic schist soils, the wine displays a balanced and elegant style with aromas of red and dark fruits complemented by subtle spice notes.
Tasting
Appearance: Deep ruby color with purple highlights, bright and expressive at first glance.
Nose: Intense and fruity nose dominated by ripe red and black fruits (cherry, blackcurrant), enhanced by delicate floral notes (violet) and soft spices.
Palate: Lively and structured attack with juicy, concentrated fruit. The tannins are ripe and well-balanced, supported by fresh acidity, while spicy nuances and slight minerality extend the finish.
Food Pairing: Excellent with grilled red meats, roasted lamb, Portuguese stews or aged cheeses — its structure stands up well to rich dishes.
Serving Temperature: Serve between 16 °C and 18 °C to reveal its full aromatic palette and freshness.
