Description
Released only in exceptional vintages, this wine comes from one of the oldest vineyards at Quinta Vale D. Maria, located in a secluded corner of the Rio Torto Valley. Over 80 years old, the vineyard yields unique grapes resulting from a field blend, where the diversity of grape varieties and the depth of the roots ensure a natural balance.
Over the course of a year, there are many moments that shape a wine. 2015 was no exception: it proved to be a rare year in the Douro, where the lack of rain and constant heat brought the harvest forward, and the older vines, serene in their wisdom, yielded grapes of unparalleled balance and character.
After 18 months of aging and bottling in 2017, the wine rested in the cellar until it reached the ideal moment to be unveiled, resulting in a profile of deep notes of ripe black fruit, graphite, and subtle spices, with firm, silky tannins.
Tasting
Appearance: Displays a garnet color, reflecting its barrel aging and development in the bottle.
Nose: It reveals a deep and balanced profile, with notes of ripe black fruits, such as plum and blackcurrant, enveloped in subtle hints of sweet spices, graphite, tobacco leaf, and a slight balsamic note. The oak is well-integrated, without overpowering the fruit.
Palate: It is precise and concentrated, with firm yet refined tannins. The finish is long and balanced, revealing a structured and harmonious red wine with great aging potential and gastronomic character.
