Description
Salvatore Molettieri is a renowned family-owned estate in Irpinia, Campania. Based in Montemarano, the winery is dedicated to expressing the identity of the region’s mountainous terroirs through its historic grape varieties. Aglianico lies at the heart of this philosophy, producing Taurasi wines of remarkable depth, structure and character.
Taurasi D.O.C.G. Vigna Cinque Querce is the estate’s flagship single-vineyard wine, produced from 100% Aglianico grown in the Vigna Cinque Querce cru in Montemarano. The vines are 18–22 years old, planted at approximately 550 metres above sea level on south-east-facing clay-limestone soils. Yields are limited to 70 q/ha, while the exceptionally late harvest, in early to mid-November, allows Aglianico to develop the concentration and depth characteristic of great Taurasi.
Tasting
Appearance: Deep, dark and intense ruby red.
Nose: Intense and complex, with ripe plum, black pepper and nutmeg, complemented by elegant balsamic nuances, liquorice and coffee.
Palate: Rich, warm and opulent, yet remarkably fresh and savoury. A dense tannic structure gives the wine impressive depth, leading to a long finish of ripe fruit and roasted notes.
Food Pairing: Excellent with game, red meats such as beef steak, and mature cheeses.
