Calvados Château du Breuil VSPO
Eaux-de-Vie - aoc
70cl- Unit
Description
The Château du Breuil estate, located in Le Breuil‑en‑Auge (Calvados, Normandy, France), is housed in a 16th‑century château set within apple orchards and steeped in a long tradition of cider and spirits. Established as a distillery in 1954, the house produces AOC Pays d’Auge calvados with full on‑site control from apple harvest to maturation.
The VSOP bottling is a cider‑based eau‑de‑vie: the cider is fermented, double‑distilled in copper stills, then aged a minimum of 4 years in French oak barrels. It offers a fruit‑forward, smooth and approachable style of Pays d’Auge calvados, serving as an excellent introduction to the appellation’s elegance.
Tasting
Appearance: clear light amber colour, golden highlights, indicating moderate maturation.
Nose: aromas of ripe apple, fresh almond, citrus peel (orange, lime) followed by quince and vanilla hints.
Palate: soft and round entry, matured fruit predominating (apple, quince), almond‑kernel touch, slight bitterness of amaretto‑kind, good length, finish with spice (cinnamon, vanilla, oak).
Food & cocktails pairing: excellent as a digestif after dinner; also well suited for mixing in long or short drinks, and for culinary use (crêpes flambées, tarte Tatin, cream‑based sauces) adding a Norman twist.
Serving temperature: best served between 16 °C and 18 °C, or around 18 °C as a digestif.
